Watford 1-2 West Brom
West Brom pulled off a dramatic victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Reduced to 10 men after 61 minutes, they battled their way to victory with goalkeeper Russell Hoult saving a last-minute penalty.

Albion were the better side in the first half, having an early Phil Gilchrist goal disallowed for a foul on Espen Baardsen.

Watford had few opportunities and even fewer shots, although Tommy Smith headed wide when he met a fine cross from Nordin Wooter.

Penalty

After 29 minutes, Albion's Warren Cummings crossed and Bob Taylor nodded down for Scott Dobie half-volley home from near the edge of the box.

Early in the second half, Watford's Stephen Glass fired over after Marcus Gayle challenged for a loose ball.

Then in the 50th minute, Watford failed to clear their lines, and Micah Hyde hooked Taylor's legs from beneath him - causing referee Clive Wilkes to point to the spot.

Baardsen saved Dobie's first shot but the striker converted the rebound, prompting an angry fracas.

Sent off

After 59 minutes Watford gained a free-kick on the right, and Gayle stooped to steer Glass' far post cross into the net.

Two minutes later Tony Butler chopped down Wooter in the middle of the park to earn a second yellow card and a dismissal.

Watford went close via Wooter and substitute Gary Fisken.

Their best chance of saving a point came when Hoult brought down substitute Heidar Helguson in the box.

But Hoult saved Gayle's spot-kick and Albion went on to take the points.
