Alessandro Zamperini and Neil Barrett scored their first goals for Portsmouth as Grahma Rix's side came from behind to crush Gillingham.

The Gills arrived at Fratton Park after failing to score away from home in the First Division this season.

However, they were given a first-half lead through veteran striker Iffy Onuora in the 34th minute.

Pompey responded through Barrett who headed home a Robert Prosinecki cross at the far post in the 59th minute.

And Zamperini grabbed a dramatic winner in the last minute to net his first for the club since signing on a free transfer from Roma in the summer.

It would have been easier for the home side if Prosinecki had scored from the penalty spot midway through the first half.

The Croatian international failed to beat the former Arsenal goalkeeper Vince Bartram from 12 yards after defender Barry Ashby was penalised for a foul on Peter Crouch.

Gills striker Onuora came close to grabbing his third league goal of the season as early as the ninth minute when he struck a left-foot volley against new Portsmouth goalkeeper Sasa Ilic's crossbar.

But Onuora made no mistake on 34 minutes, tapping home Marlon King's cross from inside the six-yard box.

However, Barrett and Zamperini made sure it was Pompey who took the three points.
