Coventry 0-1 Grimsby
Magnus Hedman's error in the Coventry goal gifted Grimsby a win and resulted in the home side's fans calling for the departure of manager Gordon Strachan.

Swede Hedman's howler came in the 58th minute when he took the ball off defender Mo Konjic.

Hedman dribbled past Grimsby's John Rowan before losing control and allowing Phil Jevons to chip in from long range.

Coventry had Gary Breen and John Eustace back and striker Julian Joachim was making his debut.

But it made little difference. Grimsby had two good chances early on in the game with the first falling to Jevons in the ninth minute.

He was played through a hesitant home defence by Alan Pouton but was quickly closed down by Hedman.

Coventry played the prettier football but never showed any penetration in the face of Grimsby's defending.

Jevons should have scored again in the 25th minute when he was again played through into the penalty area.

He had time and space to shoot but he delayed and the home centre-back Breen stuck out a leg to flick the ball wide.

From the resulting corner, Pouton struck a shot which bounced up for Rowan to head in to the net, but he was judged to be offside.

Coventry's only real chance of the first half arrived in the 42nd minute when Jay Bothroyd threaded a neat pass into Joachim's path but his first touch let him down.

City's best attacking moments came in the two minutes after they fell behind.

Moroccan midfielder Youssef Chippo bundled the ball against the post in a goalmouth scramble.

Lee Carsley then hooked a volley against the crossbar but Grimsby held on.
