highlights - Swansea v Ipswich

Swansea 4-1 Ipswich

Swansea City secured their Championship play-off place as Fabio Borini's brace inspired the Welsh club's demolition of mid-table Ipswich Town.

The Italy under-21 striker smashed Swansea into the lead from inside the box before Stephen Dobbie teed-up Luke Moore to add a second from 20 yards.

Colin Healy struck Ipswich a long-range life-line before Borini restored the cushion with his sixth goal in seven.

A Scott Sinclair penalty sealed victory after Mark Kennedy fouled Leon Britton.

Brendan Rodgers' men moved above Reading into fourth in the Championship as the Swans completed stage one of their quest for a top-flight return after a 28-year absence.

But Swansea's automatic promotion ambitions are now all but over, as they would need to win both of their remaining two matches and hope Norwich and Cardiff lose both of their final games.

Interview: Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers

It did not seem that Swansea were the team who had benefited from just one day of rest compared to Ipswich's three, the hosts going two goals up inside the opening 15 minutes.

On-loan Chelsea forward Borini broke the deadlock at the Liberty Stadium as he finished a patient, well-worked move down the right channel. Angel Rangel passed to Dobbie and the Scotsman's incisive pass found Borini free in the area to score a right-footed shot from 12 yards into the bottom corner.

Luke Moore doubled the advantage five minutes later, the former England under-21 international firing in his first goal for six games.

It should have been a routine save by Arran Lee-Barrett from what looked a relatively straight-forward strike - but Ipswich dragged themselves back into the game within seven minutes in a pulsating start.

Former Swans striker Jason Scotland laid the ball back to Healy, whose sweet strike into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area was his second of the season.

But the Swans soon regained their two-goal advantage. Nathan Dyer sent Moore clean through, and though his shot was parried by Lee-Barrett, Borini was on hand to poke in his second from less than a yard out.

The second half was a complete contrast to the first, with chances at a premium.

But the end-of-season feel was only interrupted by Kennedy`s 70th-minute foul on Britton in the penalty area.

And substitute Sinclair, who replaced Borini, converted the resulting penalty for his 23rd goal of the season as stuttering Swansea managed just their third win in 10 games.

Rodgers will now bid to finish well in their final two regular-season games ahead of a forthcoming play-off quest for Premier League football.
