Highlights - Nott'm Forest 2-0 Burnley

Nott'm Forest 2-0 Burnley

Nottingham Forest reignited their play-off push thanks to two David McGoldrick goals at home against 10-man Burnley.

Chris Eagles forced Forest keeper Lee Camp to save before Burnley's Marvin Bartley was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Luke Chambers.

Forest laid siege to the Burnley goal after the break and Rob Earnshaw hit the bar before McGoldrick came off the bench to fire past Brian Jensen.

He wrapped it up in injury time after Earnshaw broke clear and teed him up.

The three points - Forest's first win in 10 games - mean Billy Davies's side are now only a point behind sixth-placed Leeds with five games of the campaign remaining.

Burnley's hopes of sneaking into the play-offs have suffered a severe setback after four successive defeats and the Clarets are seven points adrift, though they do have a game in hand on their rivals.

After both Forest (3-4 at home to Reading) and Burnley (4-0 away at Leicester) lost at the weekend they both started in tentative fashion, with Eagles's shot against Camp on the half-hour mark the first sign of life from either side.

But the dismissal of Bartley for his rash challenge on Chambers soon after gave Forest impetus and Marcus Tudgay struck narrowly wide before Chambers narrowly failed to latch on to a Lewis McGugan free-kick.

McGugan then saw his 20-yard set-piece magnificently tipped away by Jensen with Earnshaw heading the rebound on to the crossbar, before Jensen saved bravely at the feet of Earnshaw after he brought down Paul McKenna's header.

McGoldrick came on for Tudgay with 19 minutes left and he soon put the ball in the net after Burnley failed to clear another McGugan free-kick, and after Jensen superbly saved another McGugan piledriver, McGoldrick doubled the lead at the death.
