Norwich 2-1 Grimsby
![]() Chris Llewellyn has had an eventful few days
Chris Llewellyn ended a mixed week on a high note as he scored the goal that eased Norwich's relegation worries - and left Grimsby deep in the relegation mire.
Sent off while playing for the Welsh Under-21s on Tuesday and awarded a new four-year contract on Friday, the young winger cracked home the 73rd minute winner to settle a tense encounter. The result was rough justice on the visitors who played some neat football after going behind after just three minutes. Norwich could hardly have wished for a better start as they took the lead with their first effort of the match. Phil Mulryne's corner was only half cleared and Adrian Forbes' drive was deflected into the path of Iwan Roberts who fired home his 17th goal of the season. But Grimsby gradually began to take control, eventually equalising in the 31st minute. The goal was down to excellent work from young striker Michael Jeffrey who picked himself off the ground to somehow get in an angled cross which was headed home powerfully by Stuart Campbell. Norwich might have restored their lead two minutes from half-time when it took a splendid reaction save from Danny Coyne to keep out a Roberts piledriver. But Llewellyn gave Norwich the points after Roberts had put him in the clear with a wonderfully timed touch.
