Nottingham Forest 2-0 Sheffield United

Andy Reid scored on his Forest debut in a victory over Sheffield United which took David Platt's team into the top six of the First Division.

The Irish 18-year-old was drafted in for his first senior game by boss Platt and responded with a clinical strike.

Reid, a product of Forest's youth system, struck after 63 minutes to set the seal on his side's sixth win in seven matches.

They had been set on their way by an early strike from American international Ben Olsen, his second since arriving on loan from DC United.

Talented

But it was Reid who stole the show with an fine display, capped by his goal which came after a flowing move involving two other talented youngsters, Gareth Williams and David Prutton.

England Under-21 international Prutton sent Reid clear with an excellent through-ball, but the new boy still showed remarkable cool by slotting the ball past United keeper Simon Tracey.

United could have few complaints, having hardly tested Forest keeper Dave Beasant all night.

He was forced to make just two saves of note, blocking a first-half header from James Thomas and comfortably dealing with a second-half volley from Laurent D'Jaffo.

Forest continually caused problems for their visitors and could have had more than just two goals to show for their efforts.

Napping

In the dying seconds Prutton came close to embarrassing Tracey when he sent over a cross from the left that almost caught the keeper napping.

Tracey had been powerless to prevent Olsen firing Forest into a ninth-minute lead.

The American showed great determination as he forced his way into the area and eventually carved open the opportunity to fire into an empty net from a difficult angle.

Reid had a chance to open his account in the first half but was denied by Tracey. But the highly-promising youngster was not to be overshadowed and eventually made his mark in stunning style.
