Watford 4-0 Grimsby
Gifton Noel-Williams
Noel-Williams was on target for Watford
After their midweek Worthington Cup exit to their Premiership counterparts Manchester United, First Division leaders Watford resumed active service with a comprehensive victory over Grimsby.

The Nationwide League's only unbeaten team hit two goals in three first-half minutes and then completed the success after the break.

However, Grimsby had the better of the early exchanges and came close with a header from Paul Groves and then another by David Nielsen.

However, Watford took the lead after 29 minutes when Gifton Noel-Williams was given the advantage after being fouled and broke down the right before crossing for Allan Nielsen to slot the ball home from close range.

Three minutes later, Nordin Wooter crossed for Tommy Mooney, who headed home from close range.

Watford keeper Espen Baardsen was called on to make two saves early in the second half.

The first was to push wide from John McDermott and the second prevented what looked a certain goal when Stacy Coldicott was left with only the keeper to beat but Baardsen parried his shot.

A mistake by Groves let in Noel-Williams a few minutes later when he broke down the left, cut inside and slotted the ball beyond keeper Danny Coyne.

Watford wrapped up their success in time added on when Mooney notched his second of the game, heading home from Neil Cox's corner.

Watford: Baardsen, Cox, Page, Palmer, Mooney, Wooter, Noel-Williams, Helguson, Ward, Perpetuini, Nielsen. Subs: Chamberlain, Smart, Gibbs, Smith, Easton.

Grimsby: Coyne, McDermott, Gallimore, Handyside, Campbell, Groves, Livingstone, Raven, Coldicott, Allen, Nielsen. Subs: Burnett, Donovan, D. Smith, Croudson, Murray.
