QPR 1-1 Portsmouth
Paul Peschisolido
Paul Peschisolido started loan spell with a goal
Loan ranger Paul Peschisolido took just ten minutes to open his account for his new club - but could not spur beleaguered QPR to their first win in eight games as Portsmouth grabbed a share of the spoils.

The striker, out of favour at west London neighbours Fulham, was brought in to breathe new life into struggling Rangers - and in the first half he did just that as they took a deserved lead.

He started the move himself, putting Gavin Peacock away down the right. When his cross was only headed up into the air Peter Crouch was able to nod down for Peschisolido who saw his first shot blocked but easily beat Russell Hoult with the rebound.

Rangers have been guilty of letting in goals at the start of the second half this season, and this game was no exception as it took Pompey just four minutes to equalise after the break.

Portsmouth player-boss Steve Claridge was involved twice in the superb move which led to their goal.

He combined with both Thomas Thogersen and Mike Panapoulos before the ball was fed out to Ceri Hughes on the left.

His drive into the box was certainly a shot, but striker Lee Bradbury met it six yards out and deflected the ball into the roof of the net past a helpless Lee Harper.

It was cruel on Rangers who should have been well clear by the break.

Even before their early goal they could have been in front.

On seven minutes Richard Langley won a corner on the left. He took it himself and picked out Clarke Carlisle's late run, but the defender headed powerfully over the bar.

Twice Rangers had claims for a penalty. On 18 minutes Hoult dropped Carlisle's cross at the feet of Crouch and then seemed to trip the striker - but the referee waved play on.

Then just after the break Bradbury appeared to control with his hand before clearing, but once more the decision went against QPR.

Peacock had a shot blocked, while Matthew Rose also went close and Peschisolido almost put in Crouch with a low cross.

But after the break it was Pompey who were in the ascendancy.

Following their equaliser Panapoulos tried his luck from 30 yards only for Harper to save comfortably, while Claridge - who had missed a good chance in the first half when he fired over on the turn from just six yards - again came close in the second half.

He met Panapoulos' perfect cross from the right with his head, but this time the ball flew straight at Harper who clung on.

Rangers had their moments in the second period.

In the 57th minute Christer Warren's corner fell neatly on to Crouch's head only to fly wide. Then on 75 minutes Carlisle was first to another corner this time from Langley, but Hoult was well placed to save.

Tempers flared as both sides looked for a late winner, and Hoult and Crouch were lucky to stay on the field following late tackles.

But in the end Portsmouth would have been happier with the draw as Rangers' dismal run continued.
