Fulham 3-0 Huddersfield
Bjarne Goldbaek
Goldbaek was on target with a deflected shot
Fulham secured victory over bottom club Huddersfield with three second half strikes to keep them in the promotion hunt.

Louis Saha's 58th-minute goal set Fulham on the way to get the three points they wanted in a disappointing match.

Then two more goals in the last three minutes gave the Londoners a more flattering scoreline than they deserved.

Saha's goal came from a powerful header from a Fabrice Fernandes free-kick.

Bjarne Goldbaek hit the net with a shot in the 87th minute that took a deflection before beating goalkeeper Nico Vaesen.

And the win was sealed when the unchallenged Steve Finnan scored with a fierce drive two minutes later.

After just two points from the last nine Fulham were in need of a win and a match against the bottom club - who were without a win in 13 games and a goal in five - gave them the opportunity.

But the Cottagers were in lacklustre form early on, giving the ball away and taking so long to arrive in Town's goal area that the whole of the visiting team were waiting for them.

Even so they created chances, usually through the speed of Saha. Three Town players were booked for fouls on him and when Scott Sellars repeated his offence in the 67th minute he was sent off.

Town were content to defend with an occasional breakaway attack and it worked for almost an hour.

But once Fulham had taken the lead they looked more aggressive, but often in the wrong way - Saha and Fernandes were both booked for getting their own back after fouls.

To win without playing well is clearly a good sign - but the Londoners were lucky not to be facing better opposition.

Having been appointed manager in midweek, Lou Macari now has to get stuck into the uphill task of taking his side away from the bottom of the table.
