Farnborough appoint Day as boss to replace Haylock

Farnborough

Farnborough have appointed Spencer Day as their new manager after parting company with Garry Haylock.

Haylock only joined the Hampshire side in the summer but the club have lost their last seven games in Blue Square Bet South.

Day recently left Chertsey Town following four years as manager and owner of the Southern League Division One Central outfit.

The 40-year-old says he has no plans to invest in Farnborough.

He told BBC Surrey: "It is well known the type of things I've done at my previous club, but there's certainly no big investments into the club at the moment.

"It's not in my job description but I'll do my best to help if the right players become available. It's important the club is sustainable.

"It's a fantastic opportunity and it's my job to turn things around as soon as possible."

Day, formerly known as Spencer Trethewy, signed a £200,000 affidavit which promised he could save Aldershot from closure in 1990, when he was 19 years old.

However he was removed from the board of directors when it emerged that he had borrowed the money and was unable to pay it back.

"The simple fact is it was over 20 years ago," Day continued.

"I'm not proud of what happened but it was never as simple as some people made it out to be.

"It's well documented and it's a challenge for me.

"There's no question it's going to be raised. It took me time to win over Chertsey fans, it's going to take time to win over the Farnborough fans.

"I hope they give me the time to do it. People deserve second chances and I look forward to the challenge."
