Stafford Rangers manager Matt Elliott has resigned, just four months after taking charge at Marston Road.

The ex-Scotland international defender, 42, replaced former Leicester City team-mate Tim Flowers in January.

However, Elliott could not prevent relegation from the Blue Square Bet North on the final day of the season.

A statement on the official website read: "The board understand and accept Matt's reasons for his decision and wish him well for the future."

It continued: "We thank him for his efforts during the last four months of the season.

"The board will now set about the task of finding a suitable replacement as soon as possible."

Stafford will play in the Evo-Stik Premier League next season.
