Nuneaton manager Kevin Wilkin looks ahead to next year

Nuneaton Town

The Nuneaton Town manager Kevin Wilkin is already looking ahead to next season after just missing out on a third successive promotion.

Boro lost their Blue Square Bet North play-off semi-final 3-2 to AFC Telford on aggregate.

Wilkin told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I think we've made good inroads this season and proved that we've got good players at the club.

"The work will be to keep hold of those players for next season."

He added: "It's probably a measure of how far we've come in these two or three years.

"If someone had said you're going to get into the play-off semi-finals and be playing in front of a great crowd here at Telford you'd have taken that all day long at the start of the season."

Nuneaton lost the second leg of the semi-final 2-1 at the New Bucks Head on Sunday, having previously drawn 1-1 at home.

Wilkin felt his players had pushed their victors all the way.

He said: "We put them on the back foot for large parts of that second half and had all the best chances.

"It hasn't quite happened for us but I'm tremendously proud.

"The boys in there have had a right go and given us something to cling to right to the very death."
