Tamworth 2-1 Forest Green

Jake Sheridan
Sheridan's winner ensured Tamworth safety

Jake Sheridan's strike kept Tamworth safe and earned a win over Forest Green Rovers, who also avoided relegation from the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Despite the defeat, Rovers finished level on points with Southport - whose 3-1 loss against Kettering sees them go down on goal difference.

Christian Smith's tap-in put the Lambs ahead but Matt Somner headed home to level after the interval.

But Sherdian's cross-cum shot with 14 minutes remaining won it for the hosts.

Sheridan's freak goal looked to have condemned Rovers to the drop but Southport's defeat at Kettering saw them maintain their Blue Square Bet Premier status by the closest of margins.

The Lambs had the perfect start when they took advantage of the swirling wind to lead when Smith scored from close range after Scott Barrow's long throw.

And they should have doubled their lead when Ben Wilkinson blazed over from a great position.

They were punished when Somner headed in six minutes after the interval.

But Sheridan's strike flew over keeper James Bittner to ensure Tamworth's survival.
