Alfreton Town boss Nicky Law hails striker Daryl Clare

Alfreton Town boss Nicky Law has praised Daryl Clare's quality after the on-loan striker scored on his debut against Gloucester City on Tuesday.

Clare, 32, has joined the Blue Square Bet North high-flyers from Cambridge United and opened the scoring in an impressive 4-0 win at the Impact Arena.

He said: "We probably wouldn't have got the first goal without Daryl.

"He is in and around the six-yard box and in the right place at the right time. That's what good goalscorers do."

Liam Hearn also scored twice and Anthony Wilson completed the scoring late on.

And Law hopes Clare's experience and quality will continue to rub off on the other forwards at the club.

If our other four strikers are willing and receptive, they can learn a lot from somebody like Daryl

"If you look at the front end of the side, we have now got Daryl Clare, Liam Hearn, Paul Clayton, Ant Wilson and Nathan Arnold," Law said.

"There is a good strikeforce there but, we are going to need that with the amount of games we have coming up.

"If our other four strikers are willing and receptive, they can learn a lot from somebody like Daryl who has scored a lot of goals at higher level throughout his career.

"Daryl and Liam have done really well for an hour and we have then put Clayton and Ant Wilson on and they have done well as well.

"It must be a nightmare for a defence to see the back of Hearn and Clare and then see Wilson and Clayton come on."

The routine win sees the Reds move back up to second place in the table, seven points behind Nuneaton but with eight games in hand on the leaders.
