Boss Nicky Law frets over Alfreton's January workload

Law's Alfreton have only lost Blue Square Bet North game this season

Alfreton Town boss Nicky Law is worried that his side's tough workload could catch up with them in the coming weeks.

The Reds host Blue Square Bet Premier Division side Cambridge United in the FA Trophy second round on Saturday.

But the tie will be their sixth game in 15 days and Law admitted: "We know this is going to easily be the biggest test of the season for us.

"My real fear is that we are not on burn-out after so many matches in such a short space of time," he added.

"Cambridge will certainly be fresher than us. They have only played five times in a month and will start big favourites.

It is a glimpse into the sort of game we would be facing on a regular basis next season if we went up

Nicky Law on facing Cambridge

"They are a full-time outfit with a 27-man squad packed with a wealth of experience, much of it from their Football League days.

"It is a glimpse into the sort of game we would be facing on a regular basis next season if we went up.

"But I just hope our recent run on heavy pitches hasn't drained us too much.

"I hope we do ourselves justice in a competition in which the rewards are so great. Yes, it is a one-off game but it is a big call for us at the minute.

"They are going to be rested, having not played since last Saturday and are more suited to it but that's how it goes."

Alfreton moved three points clear at the top of the Blue Square Bet North table with victory over Workington on Tuesday.
