Southern Premier League: Truro City 1-1 Salisbury City

Truro City FC

A 90th-minute Marcus Martin penalty earned Truro City a point from their Southern Premier League top-of-the-table home clash with Salisbury City.

Strong winds and heavy rain made conditions difficult for both sides.

But Salisbury took the lead on 65 minutes when Josh Casey scored direct from a wind-assisted corner.

Truro kept pushing and were rewarded with Martin's last-gasp equaliser after referee Richard Hulme ruled that Andy Watkins had been pushed by Ryan Brett.

The result at Treyew Road maintained Truro's four-point lead over second-placed Salisbury at the top of the table.

Truro City manager Lee Hodges told BBC Radio Cornwall:
"The weather played havoc for both teams - a lot of the time you're clearing the ball and it's ending up back over your own head.

"We're disappointed to concede the goal straight from a corner, but the boys showed character and a lot of fight to come back and get a point in the dying seconds.

"We've gone into the game, given it everything we've got and we've come out with a point and we're no worse off."

Salisbury City player-manager Darrell Clarke told BBC Wiltshire:
"He has blatantly given something that was never a penalty and I'm absolutely gutted for my boys.

"We never got our clearance long enough with 10 or 15 minutes to go. That's streetwise for me. Get the ball out of the ground and take a scruffy 1-0 win.

"We're still learning but we need to start learning quicker. We've come to the top of the table and got a point but it should have been all three."
