Andy Ford keen to improve Maidstone United squad

Andy Ford
Ford has become Maidstone's third manager in a year

Maidstone United manager Andy Ford says he needs new players if they are to climb the Ryman Premier division table.

The Stones are one place off the bottom after Ford's first two games, against Hendon and Wealdstone, ended in draws.

Ford told BBC Radio Kent: "We've taken a picture of what they can do and can't do and realise we need new blood in.

"Maybe we need two or three players but Rome wasn't built in a day. I want to give the players as much chance as possible to show me what they can do."

Ford, who has previously managed Gravesend and Northfleet, and Welling United, knows some players will have to leave before he can make signings.

"I've always done that, I've worked in non league," he said.

"Ryan Johnson's not going to join us. We thought he was going to, so that is a bit disappointing.

"Hopefully we can look for some players and get them in in the next couple of weeks."
