Maidstone name Ford new manager

Andy Ford
Ford has become Maidstone's third manager in a year

Maidstone United have appointed Andy Ford as their manager with Steve Butler as his number two.

Ford, 56, replaces Peter Nott, who was sacked on Monday after just eight months in the post.

Ford, who managed Gravesend & Northfleet to the Ryman League title in 2002, returns to management almost a year to the day after leaving Welling.

Chief executive Bill Williams said: "Both men have an exceptional amount of football experience."

He added: "I am extremely happy that they have taken up their roles. I am delighted to have been able to secure the services of two people of the calibre of Andy Ford and Steve Butler."

Butler returns for his third spell at Maidstone United having had coaching spells at Gillingham, Leicester City and Hull.

The former striker played for the club for Maidstone in the Conference and the Football League, and returned for a spell when they were in the Kent League.

The Stones are bottom of the Ryman Premier Division.
