AFC Telford United striker James Lawrie has vowed to make a big impact with the Bucks as he waits for his first start of the season.

Lawrie scored his only goal in the first game of the season against Hyde, a 5-0 Blue Square Bet North win.

"Like everyone in the squad, I want to be starting," the 19-year-old told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I've got to work hard in training and play well when I come off the bench. I just have to be patient."

Lawrie left Port Vale in the summer and had a trial with Exeter in pre-season before eventually being signed by Telford a week before the start of the campaign.

"The gaffer already had his side put together before the Hyde game," he added. "So it was right that I started off on the bench.

"We've had a 10-game unbeaten run since then so I can't complain. I'm not the only one frustrated, we've got a lot of good strikers wanting to start, it's up to me to take my chance."

Lawrie is currently playing for Northern Ireland Under-19s and Under-21s and won his first full international cap against Italy.

He is fighting for a place with the likes of former Wolves striker Adam Proudlock, Andy Brown, Steve Abbott and Alex Meechan.

Manager Andy Sinton has kept with Brown and Meechan for the majority of games this season, but Brown has an ankle injury ahead of their league match against Worcester City at the New Bucks Head.
