Bacup Borough eye FA Vase success

Non-league football

Bacup Borough hit the Wembley trail on Saturday in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase.

Brent Peters' side entertain Wakefield-based Nostell Miners Welfare from the Northern Counties East League.

"If we can maintain the level of performance we showed against Clitheroe we will be more than a match for anyone," said Peters.

"But we are not under any illusions as to what will be required by us in order to progress in this competition."

In the Vodkat League Premier Division, Colne are the county's highest placed team and after a good win at Squires Gate in midweek will be favourites to maintain their winning run at home to lowly Formby.

Gate, meanwhile, have shown better form on the road than at home and will be looking for a third successive away win at Glossop North End.

Another Lancashire derby in midweek saw Padiham emerge victorious over Ramsbottom and while the Rams will look to bounce back with a tricky looking game at Maine Road, Padiham will fancy their chances at home to Flixton.

Barnoldswick Town and Rossendale United shared the points in their midweek encounter and both face trips south at the weekend.

Rossy travel to face league leaders Winsford United, while Barnoldswick face Alsager Town.

In Division One. AFC Blackpool will look to stay on top of the league with a win over AFC Liverpool at The Mechanics, while AFC Darwen host Oldham Boro'.
