Craig Nelthorpe grabbed a last-minute winner as Gateshead secured their first home win of the season against newly-promoted Southport.

The winger converted Josh Gillies' cross from six yards for his first goal for the club and first since December.

Gateshead had earlier hit the bar through Martin Brittain's curler, while Nelthorpe, Phil Turnbull and Nathan Fisher forced saves from Tony McMillan.

Liam Blakeman went close for Southport but Tim Deasy saved his 20-yard shot.

Nelthorpe's dramatic winner was Gateshead's first goal for 384 minutes and ended their three-match losing streak.

It was also the first Southport had conceded in 452 minutes.
