Oxford United 2-0 Rushden & Diamonds (agg 3-1)

Highlights - Oxford 2-0 Rushden

Goals from Matthew Green and James Constable sent Oxford to the Blue Square Premier play-off final at the expense of Rushden & Diamonds.

Green broke the deadlock early in the second half, rounding goalkeeper Dale Roberts and scoring from a tight angle.

Constable put the tie beyond Diamonds soon after, finishing low when one-on-one with Roberts.

The U's meet York City in the final at Wembley on Sunday, 16 May for a place in the Football League.

In a first half of few opportunities for either side, Dannie Bulman forced Roberts into a fine save while Aaron O'Connor and Paul Terry wasted chances for the visitors.

But Green latched onto Simon Clist's pass eight minutes after the break to swing the tie Oxford's way.

Four minutes later, Jack Midson provided Constable with the opportunity for his 25th goal of the season.

There were to be no alarms for Oxford, who travel to Wembley for the first time since 1986 in their first ever play-off final, as they seek a return to the Football League after being relegated in 2006.

Rushden and Diamonds manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Northampton:
"We've come up short, we've been beaten by the better side.

"I didn't feel we were in the game, I'm disappointed that we had too many passengers out there over the two ties. With people not performing to their maximum, you're going to come unstuck.

"This team have come a long way in a short space of time. Hopefully we'll use these moments to reflect on and spur us on to bigger and better things next season."
