Grays Athletic 0-4 York City

Richard Brodie
Two-goal Richard Brodie had not scored for York City since 16 January

Two-goal Richard Brodie ended his long run without scoring as York City improved their hopes of making the Blue Square Premier play-offs.

Brodie was the provider when Paul Harsley gave York the lead against the bottom club on the half hour.

And it was all over by the break when Brodie struck twice from close range inside three minutes - taking his tally to 23 for the season

Neil Barrett completed the rout after the break, firing into the top corner.

It was a comfortable win for York, triggered by Brodie's return to scoring form, having not scored since 16 January.

After Chesterfield loanee Harsley had slotted home, he swapped roles when he turned provider seven minutes later for Brodie.

Another neat finish inside the six-yard box by Brodie was then capped by Barrett's effort from 12 yards.

And the only consolation for Grays, after their 24th defeat of the season, was that Gateshead's defeat at Eastbourne means that they averted relegation - for another few days at least.

York boss Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York:

"It was a very convincing 4-0 win. It was hard because of the gale-force winds but we had a lot of chances and it was a good finish from Paul Harsley that relaxed us a little bit.

"The lads were bright and I thought Michael Gash was outstanding. He had a spring in his step.

"People think it's all about goals but I brought him here as a hold-up man to bring people into the play and make the team click, and I thought he did that."
