AFC Telford United assistant boss Larry Chambers says he was surprised to hear of rumours that he and manager Rob Smith had resigned.

A local commercial radio station had fuelled the rumours and had to retract their comments, and apologise.

"Rob and I were taken by surprise," Chambers told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"Our response was simply that we're still in situ, we're still very much in control and looking forward to the Christmas games."

Chambers added: "I know the chairman was very unhappy that such a rumour should be spread without any basis of truth."

Telford also issued a club statement denying the rumours.

It read: "The Board of Directors would like to publicly state their full support for Rob Smith, Larry Chambers and all of the football management staff."

Meanwhile young midfielder Scott Embrey has signed for Chasetown.

"Scott needs regular games, he was very much part of our squad but wasn't quite ready for our level of first-team football," Chambers added.
