Harrogate Town sign veteran striker Simon Yeo

Harrogate Town have signed former Lincoln City striker Simon Yeo.

The 36-year-old joined before Saturday's 1-0 league defeat at Eastwood, although he did not play because of an illness in the family.

Town manager Simon Weaver told BBC Radio York: "Up front, you need to stick the chances away when you get them, it's where quality shows."

Yeo has joined the club from Droylsden, whom he joined in the summer after retiring from professional football.

Long-range specialist Rory Coleman and striker Keiran Leabon have returned to their parent clubs after loan spells, so Weaver's need for a goal scorer is acute.

"I need goals, and that's what is going to get us out of the bottom three," he added.

"I've addressed a lot of issues within the team and I've made some decent signings of late. We've got some good quality defenders, goalkeeper and midfield."

Saturday's Blue Square North defeat at Eastwood sees Harrogate bottom on goals scored from Vauxhall Motors.

Harrogate looked the stronger team at Eastwood as half-time approached, only for Ben Chapman to concede the penalty from which Eastwood's Ian Holmes scored the only goal.

Weaver said: "They (Eastwood) were no better a team than us, they're third in the league but no way were they better.

"We were playing some good two-touch stuff in their half. I was very disappointed in the way (their goal) came from our corner... they broke on us too easily."

Town now face a crucial period, with five games in a row against teams who are outside the top 10 of the division.

"We know where we've come from, where we need to go and how we need to do it," Weaver said.

"We need a couple more squad additions to help increase our chances of staying up."
