Southport hoping to stretch lead

Southport

Southport have a chance to extend their lead at the top of Blue Square North to 10 points when they travel to struggling Hyde United on Monday night.

The Sandgrounders stretched their lead to seven points with Saturday's 4-0 win over Corby Town.

"It's a great win and," Watson told BBC Radio Merseyside. "But we only get three points for winning.

"So it's important with the three points we've earned we don't throw them away at Hyde on Monday," he added.

"We must turn up with another performance "

The Southport boss was also pleased to see the return to goal-scoring form of striker Ciaran Kilheeney, who netted his first goal in over a month against Corby.

"He hasn't played for two weeks," said Watson. "It's hard to score when you're not playing and he needed a rest.

"But we saw last year how important he is to us.

"You look at him and Chris Simm and they were different gravy.

"Steve Daly was the same on Tuesday, so all the forwards are scoring.

"None of them are moaning. Some are in the team and some are out. We're just picking the team for each individual game which is important."
