Alfreton win for the fans - Law

Nicky Law
Law steered Alfreton to their highest ever final league position last season

Alfreton Town have beaten Ilkeston 2-0 to take them to third spot in the Blue Square North.

Ex-Ilkeston winger Andy Todd and substitute midfielder Jordan Hall got the second-half goals to push the Reds up to third in the Blue Square North.

Alfreton manager Nicky Law told BBC Radio Derby: "It's only three points but I know it means a lot to the spectators and local bragging rights."

Ilkeston remain in eighth place in the league after the defeat.

Law said: "It was a hard fought win. I was quite impressed with Ilkeston, they were big, strong and resilient.

"In a game like this points and positions go out of the window, it's about who wants to win the most.

"We didn't start the season great but now we're showing what we're about and we've got into a good position."

Alfreton face Hinckley United next in the Blue Square North on Saturday.
