Blakeman prompts Telford revival

Liam Blakeman celebrates his goal against Blyth

Liam Blakeman has pointed to an upturn in form for AFC Telford after his goal sparked the 4-0 FA Cup rout of Blyth.

"I'm made up for the lads," Blakeman told BBC Radio Shropshire. "It's given us a new lease of life.

"After the second goal everyone was starting to pop the ball off and Blyth didn't have a chance.

"This is a platform for us. We have got two big league games coming up, and we've got to be looking at six points," Blakeman added.

Telford have fallen short of expectations this season, and need to improve to get their Blue Square North promotion drive back on track.

First up for the revitalised Bucks are Workington at home on 31 October, followed by a trip to Solihull three days later - ahead of their FA Cup first round tie against Lincoln.

And Blakeman's opener against Blyth might also revive his own fortunes.

He was on the bench for the game, but was called upon after only nine minutes when Chris Nurse pulled a hamstring.

"I got myself in a nice little space, I just turned and it opened up," said Blakeman. "I heard the crowd shout 'shoot', so I let one fly and and it went in.

"I'm made up. I hadn't played for the last few games, and I was getting a bit frustrated - but then the gaffer said 'Go on and show me what you can do'."
