Tamworth 3-1 Chester

Blue Square Premier

Tamworth ended a run of six straight defeats in league and cup with victory over rock-bottom Chester.

Neil Mackenzie fired the Lambs in front from 15 yards but on-loan striker Mark Beesley pulled Chester level with a cool finish from inside the box.

Gregg Blundell and Shaun Kelly then both wasted chances for the visitors.

And they were punished when debutant Simon Brown put the hosts back in front from close range before Nick Wright netted with a fierce left-foot drive.

Chester manager Jim Harvey told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"To come off with a 3-1 defeat is a bit baffling. I thought the boys were terrific.

"We played some first-class football and we dominated the game. But, for all our domination, when you create as many chances as we did, you've got to put them away.

"Once we equalised, we were so on top it looked like Tamworth were dead, that there was no fight left in them at all.

"But the boys were complaining that their second goal was offside, then it got a cruel deflection and it popped out to the lad who had pretty much an empty net."
