Little slams 'criminal' defending

Brian Little
Little has seen Gainsborough concede eight in two home games

Gainsborough Trinity boss Brian Little blamed poor defending for their 4-1 home defeat by Northwich Victoria in Blue Square North on Saturday.

It was the second game in a row, the third this season, in which Trinity have conceded four at the Northolme.

Little told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "You look at the way we conceded the goals, it's criminal. We gave away the stupidest goals ever.

"It's not the opposition creating goals, it's us not defending properly."

The visitors led 2-0 at half-time after Jonny Allan and Mark Danks capitalised on defensive lapses.

Trinity pulled a goal back through Darryn Stamp a minute after the break, only to concede a penalty within 60 seconds which Allan converted.

Mat Bailey made it 4-1 to Northwich five minutes from time following more uncertainty at the back.

Little added: "They weren't the most physical side but their work-rate to close us down was phenomenal and we were genuinely second best.

"If the players can't do it then the most important thing for me is to do something about it.

"I'll stand by them, work with them and try to encourage them but ultimately if we keep losing games then I have to try to change it around and make it a winning team."
