Busby to monitor Reds trialists

Workington Reds assistant boss Viv Busby has high hopes for a trio of trialists currently bidding for a deal at Borough Park.

Midfielders Dan Casson and Mario Campagna, plus striker Dan Shannon are expected to feature in Tuesday's friendly at Penrith.

"They've all done quite well," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We're hoping that they can all turn up again on Tuesday and for the rest of the season and we'll see how we go."

Reds have already taken on Gretna and Carlisle United in their pre-season preparations for the Blue Square North season, winning 1-0 against the Scottish side and losing 3-1 against Greg Abbott's Cumbrians on Saturday.

And with five more games to come, including the trip to Penrith, Busby believes the players will see the benefit by the time the season kicks off on Saturday, 8 August.

"They're obviously rusty, but they get back into it, and they get back their shape, because you lose it over the summer, the things you got into them last season you have to start all over again which is what footballers are all about," he said.

"We've got games coming thick and fast now and we're looking forward to the start of the season."

As a player Busby enjoyed a long career which took in Fulham, Stoke City and Newcastle United among his 10 professional clubs, and even spent time in the North American Soccer League with the Tulsa Roughnecks.

Kick off at Southend Road for the game against Penrith is 1930 BST.
