Rangers ready for 'vital' run-in

Stafford Rangers manager Chris Brindley says the remaining four matches of the season are vital for the club's future.

The 38-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke they were crucial matches, but stopped short of saying they were the most important of the club's history.

"I wouldn't go as far as that, but they're vital games. The club cannot afford to go down," said Brindley.

Stafford are six points above the Blue Square North relegation zone but the sides below them have games in hand.

Rangers beat Gateshead 4-1 at Marston Road on Saturday, their first win in 10 league matches, and followed that up by reaching the final of the Staffordshire Senior Cup with a 3-2 victory over Port Vale.

Brindley took over from former England striker Steve Bull as manager in December, and admitted he felt obligated to take the job after serving as Bull's assistant for the first four months of the season.

"I didn't want to see the club go bust and I didn't want to see the club go down," Brindley added.

"It's been interesting to say the least, but it's all good experience and we just hope we can finish the job off by staying in the league."

Stafford's remaining fixtures are against Tamworth, Solihull, Fleetwood and Hinckley.
