King's Lynn 2-3 Blyth Spartans

Keith Webb led King's Lynn to the Southern League title last season

King's Lynn manager Keith Webb was left stunned by a first-half performance that left him fearing the bullet.

After going in two down at the break, the Linnets eventually lost 3-2, but Webb said he would not be surprised if he got a summons to see the chairman.

"That first-half display was absolutely dire," he said. "If I get the sack after that I've got no complaints.

"We were poor, in fact I could use a few other superlatives that would get me in trouble," he told BBC Norfolk.

The visitors had not won an away game all season before their Blue Square North visit to the Walks. But Webb admitted: "We were never at the races.

"Everything that you, as a manager, don't want your team to do, in the first-half we did it.

"We were flat, we were off the pace, we didn't get close to people, we didn't get on top and show a bit of enthusiasm."

After first-half goals from Richard Pell and Mark Walton, Blyth went three up when Walton added his second eight minutes into the second half.

Jack Defty and Julian Joachim then got the Linnets back in the game with two goals in as many minutes. But Webb dismissed the revival as irrelevant.

"It's easy to play when you're 3-0 down because there's no pressure," he said. "You've got to roll your sleeves up or you end up losing by five or six.

"But, if players are going to put in these sort of performances we're going to be in a relegation dogfight.".

Webb was also furious at defender Greg Crane, who was sent off in the final minutes for retaliation.

"The boy was stupid, simple as that," said Webb. "I'm not going to condone that. He'd been playing really well up until then, at least trying to give it a go.

"But then to go and do that was absolute mindless stupidity.

"We're going to lose him for three games and, if someone goes in there and takes his place, then he's going to be out of the team."
