Shrewsbury Town have sorted out an extended loan deal for defender James Meredith at AFC Telford United.

The full-back, who has been on loan at Telford since October, has signed until the end of the season, after the clubs smoothed out contractual dealings.

"I've been keen to sign, as I'm really enjoying myself," Meredith, 20, told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Telford manager Rob Smith said: "I'm delighted. These ongoing negotiations have been affecting his game."

Town boss Paul Simpson added: "I wanted to sort it so he can continue playing for Telford as it's doing him good."

Australian-born Meredith, who started as a junior with Derby County, played three times for Shrewsbury last season under previous manager Gary Peters. But he does not figure in Simpson's immediate first-team plans.

He has looked secure at Blue Square North level with Telford and has become a fans' favourite at the Bucks Head.

His extended deal had hit a temporary contractual hitch. But parent club Shrewsbury have completed the paperwork in time to clear Meredith to play for the Bucks in Saturday's FA Trophy second round tie with Hayes & Yeading.
