Move is not about money - Beckett

Luke Beckett
Beckett could make his Trinity debut at Harrogate

Striker Luke Beckett has said money was not a major factor in his shock move to non-league Gainsborough Trinity.

The 32-year-old has signed for the Blue Square North club until the end of the season after leaving League One Huddersfield Town.

"There's more than just being driven by money and things like that," he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

"You've got to be happy in what you're doing and I've not been happy for the last couple of years."

Beckett has scored more than 140 goals for five different clubs and said he was looking forward to a new challenge with Trinity.

He admitted Gainsborough have put together a "decent deal" for him, but said personal family reasons were a bigger part of his move.

He said: "Even though I have been top goalscorer at Huddersfield it's not gone as well as I'd have liked.

"I've just been wanting to get away and enjoy myself again because I haven't done that for a good 18 months now.

"Hopefully, playing every week I can get back to where I was enjoying and scoring goals."
