Whild disgusted by protest plans

Gary Whild hopes events off the field will galvanise his team

Redditch United manager Gary Whild has said he is disgusted by a planned protest by fans before the club's FA Trophy match against Cammel Laird.

Some supporters are unhappy about talks of a possible merger between Redditch United and Bromsgrove Rovers.

"It's disgusting really, not the merger, but the things I have come across this week," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"They are attacking people at the club who have done a superb job."

"If they want to come out in strength and protest maybe that's where we are at the club at the moment."

But Whild hopes events off the field might help create a stronger bond between the squad.

It may bring the lads closer together

Redditch boss Gary Whild

"We have a very close-knit set of lads at the football club. They understand what's going on and if anything it may bring the lads even closer together."

The Reds boss said he is keen to focus on the FA Trophy tie.

"It's one of the priorities when the season kicks off, we had a good run in it a couple of seasons ago when we got to the last 16.

"It's something the club and the players are looking forward to," he said.

Whild will be forced to make changes to his side ahead of the third qualifying game as Matt Clark is suspended and Sam Foley is unavailable.
