Heeley seeks FA Trophy progress

Heeley feels City can progress in the FA Trophy

Worcester City coach Carl Heeley says a good FA Trophy run is an important factor in their season.

City host Blue Square South promotion rivals AFC Wimbledon in Saturday's third round qualifying tie.

"The draw could have been a little bit kinder, but that's following a familiar pattern this season," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"Ideally you'd prefer to be playing a team from a couple of levels below, but we just have to get on with it."

"But that can bring problems as you are on a bit of a hiding to nothing.

"It's a big game and a tough game, but it's also a tough one for them and it's very similar to our FA Cup draw against Tamworth," he added.

Heeley is a well-established figure at this level of the game and he knows that many Blue Square South clubs regard the FA Trophy as being a genuine chance of winning a trophy.

"It's a massive competition and I think it's realistic," he said. "The FA Cup is always massive financially and it's a chance to get yourselves in the spotlight.

"But clubs from our level have been successful in previous years and some have gone on and won the Trophy, so it gives you a realistic opportunity to have a good run," he added.

BBC Hereford and Worcester will be covering Worcester City against AFC Wimbledon as part of Sport on Saturday which will be on air and online from 1400 BST.
