Substitute Lewis Killeen scored in the final minute to give Crawley a dramatic draw against York.
York took an early lead when Onome Sodje latched on to veteran strike partner Bruce Dyer's through-ball before lashing home from 12 yards.
Sodje scored his, and York's, second when he converted Simon Rusk's cross.
Adam Quinn headed home to pull a goal back and Killeen equalised when he tucked in the rebound after Thomas Pinault's penalty had been saved.
York City caretaker-boss Neil Redfearn told BBC Radio York:
"It was a good performance from the lads for most of the game. We needed a reaction after what's happened and I think the effort was there for people to see but the frailties were also there.
"It was perhaps a good day for whoever the new manager is going to be to have a look and see what is happening, we showed what we are capable of doing and what we need to work on."
