Whild and Matt Clarke have been key figures in Redditch's improved fortunes
Redditch boss Gary Whild was delighted his side maintained their recent good form - despite conceding an injury-time equaliser against Alfreton.
Whild told BBC Hereford and Worcester the 2-2 draw had been ruined by the referee who sent off two players.
"I thought both teams kept their discipline well and it was just a shame, really," he said.
"After what was a cracking game, you probably go away thinking more about the mysteries of the referee."
The Reds deservedly took the lead in their Blue Square North clash on 20 minutes when on-loan midfielder Sam Foley fired home from 15 yards.
Alfreton's skipper Martin McIntosh levelled from the penalty spot eight minutes before the interval after a foul on Danny Davidson.
The Reds regained their lead on 75 minutes when Amon Verma seized on a Lee Downes pass to fire past Tom Evans in the Alfreton goal.
Redditch should have wrapped up the game in the final minute when Anthony Robinson broke clear, but then squared the ball to a team-mate in an offside position.
Immediately Alfreton went up the other end and skipper McIntosh scored from close range to earn his side a point.
Despite his disappointment at conceding the late goal, Whild felt there were still plenty of plus points his side could take from this performance.
"The players are all sitting in there absolutely gutted because if we had won tonight we would have gone into the top six," he said.
"I think that's a measure of the progress we have made that they are disappointed - it's a massive amount of progress for a club like Redditch United."
Referee Heywood handed out 11 yellow cards in what was a far-from-violent encounter, including two each to the Alfreton defender Anton Brown and the Reds' Matt Clarke.
Redditch will again have home advantage on Saturday when they will host Hinckley United in Blue Square North. There will be full coverage of the game as part of Sport on Saturday on BBC Hereford and Worcester.
