New manager Dean Saunders has issued a passionate plea to the people of Wrexham to roar their local football club back into the Football League.

Saunders will make his Racecourse debut as Wrexham boss on Tuesday as the Reds host Blue Square Premier rivals York.

He said: "I want the people of Wrexham to come and get their kids off their games consoles and join them in becoming a Wrexham fan.

"We want them to become Wrexham fans forever - we need their help."

Wrexham have cut admission prices to £10 for adults, £5 for senior citizens and fans aged between 16 and 21 and free for under-16s for Saunders' first home game in charge.

Saunders, who replaced Brian Little last week, won his first game in charge at Forest Green Rovers thanks to a late winner.

The former Wales international has been given the task of rescuing Wrexham from non-League obscurity after the Welsh club suffered relegation at the end of last season.

"The fans can play a big part in us achieving our goal," said ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Saunders.

"I want people of the town to know there's a game on and come down and be our 12th man - together as a club we can do it.

"Wrexham used to get crowds of about 15,000 people back in the good old days and I want them to return.

"The more fans we have, the more money we receive from ticket sales.

"The more money we have, the better players we can attract and the quicker we can get back to where we want to be.

"I can guarantee our boys will work hard and fight for the cause because I won't accept anything less."

Saunders has named an unchanged squad but has warned his squad that he will "get better players".

"If the current squad want to come with me they'll have to put on a red shirt and fight," added Saunders.
