Mehew takes top job at Gloucester

Non-League

David Mehew has been appointed manager of Gloucester City after serving as assistant manager for two seasons.

The 40-year-old takes over from Tim Harris, who will assume the role of general manager.

Mehew played for Leeds, Bristol Rovers and Walsall before turning out for a plethora of non-league clubs.

Mehew said: "You have to get the respect of the players. Being 40 now, I've played under some decent managers. You take little bits from all of them."

Mehew added: "Gerry Francis was a great coach, Chris Nicholl had great man-management techniques, Dennis Rofe put on superb training sessions and John Ward always knew how to play the right way."

The new man in charge knows Southern League Premier Division outfit Gloucester must get off to a better start than they have in their last two seasons.

"We came sixth last season after a terrible start," he said. "They have got to start well and build up momentum from the start of the season."
