Clubs are unsure over move south

Redditch's Valley Stadium will host teams from the south next season

Worcester City and Redditch United have admitted to mixed feelings after both clubs were moved into next season's Blue Square South.

Both sides were in the northern division last season but are being relocated by the Football Conference.

City chairman Dave Boddy told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "From a footballing point of view I'm quite looking forward to it.

"But, from a financial point of view, it's not so exciting."

The move into the South means the nearest trip for both sides, apart from their games against each other, is Bath.

Both chairman are also aware that travelling will become more expensive as there will be more long-distance trips.

The only issues that we've got are the loss of local derbies and some of the larger gates

Redditch United chairman Steve Rossiter

Reds chairman Steve Rossiter told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "There'll be a lot of travelling involved and we'll have to think about restructuring our finances.

"But I can't see us have problems with our players as transport is already arranged for them.

"The only issues that we've got are the loss of local derbies and some of the larger gates that we would have got.

Boddy added: "All of our players, apart from two or three who are Worcester-based, live to the north of the city.

"That will create problems and we'll also lose half a dozen derby games."

Both chairmen said they are also aware their managers may have to consider a change in playing style.

Boddy said: "The northern league has been a dour league and from my previous experiences in the south I think there's a chance of more football being played."
