Bromsgrove pick up precious point

Blue Square Premier

Bromsgrove Rovers stay in the Southern League Premier Division relegation places despite Tuesday night's 0-0 home draw with play-off hopefuls Bashley.

The Greens put in a much-improved performance but were unable to break down the visitors' defence.

The point enabled Rovers to climb one place in the league table, but they remain in the bottom four.

Rovers face another crucial match on Saturday when they will travel to already-relegated Cirencester Town.

It was Saturday's 1-0 defeat at bottom club Cheshunt that saw Bromsgrove drop into the bottom four.

But, although they stay there, Tuesday night's draw with Bashley was at least an improvement on the 4-0 defeat they suffered against the Hampshire side three weeks ago.

With three games left, and Cirencester and Cheshunt already down, there are still two places to be filled in the Southern League Premier Division bottom four.

And Bromsgrove are in a pile-up of five teams trying to avoid those two places all separated by just three points.

They play one of those five teams, Rugby Town, on the final day of the season.

They have another hard game in store the previous week when the Greens' final home fixture is against title-chasing Team Bath.

And that puts the pressure on Rovers to get a result this Saturday at Cirencester, who were relegated on Tuesday night.
