Chris Todd netted the only goal of a closely-contested encounter as Torquay went back to the top of the table.

Torquay almost took an early lead when Lee Phillips ran half the length of the pitch before shooting agonisingly wide.

York missed a gilt-edged chance to take the lead in the opening stages of the second period when Onome Sodje scooped the ball over the bar.

And soon afterwards Todd glanced in a close-range past keeper Tom Evans following Kevin Nicholson's corner.
