Altrincham picked up a first win in six matches with victory at home to bottom club Southport.
Mark Jackson's own goal gave the hosts the lead in the 19th minute when he deflected the ball past goalkeeper Ryan Robinson from six yards.
Karl Munroe doubled the lead just before half-time from 12 yards after being released by Lewis Chalmers.
Sean Paterson gave the Sandgrounders hope when he converted Daniel Kirkup's pass but the hosts held on.
