Charlie Mapes' late free-kick earned Crawley a deserved draw against Hereford in their first home game.
The visitors asserted their authority and Adam Stansfield headed Simon Travis' cross emphatically into the back of the net just before the break.
Neil Jenkins went close to restoring parity for the hosts when his fierce long-range free-kick skidded just wide.
But Mapes had the final word with a stunning free-kick after Lee Mills fouled Robert Traynor 20 yards out.
