Substitute Glenn Kirkwood headed a late equaliser to snatch a point for Burton in a scrappy mid-table draw at home to Northwich.

Northwich had looked to be cruising to victory after player-manager Jimmy Quinn had headed them in front after 67 minutes.

But Kirkwood rose to meet Matt O'Halloran's corner in stoppage time to salvage a deserved point.

Quinn tried to inspire his troops from the off, drilling a left-foot strike from long range which Burton goalkeeper Matt Duke could only parry.

Clear-cut chances were few and far between and the second half started much the same way as the first had ended.

Vics midfielder Val Owen was substituted after 51 minutes following a late challenge from Stephen Evans, who was shown the yellow card for the challenge.

Quinn finally broke the deadlock midway through the second half when he rose to head home Jake Sedgemore's cross.

Northwich grew in confidence as the game progressed and Quinn and Richard Norris went close in the closing stages.

Vics' keeper Parry produced a save after 88 minutes to deny Kirkwood, who had replaced injured Darren Stride.

But two minutes later the Burton goalkeeper was helpless as the substitute headed home the equaliser.
