Southport 0-1 Yeovil

Conference leaders Yeovil kept the chasing pack at bay with a win at Southport courtesy of Michael McIndoe's strike in first-half stoppage time.

Southport, seeking to avenge their 6-0 drubbing at Huish Park in October, struggled to create anything in the way of goalscoring chances and Yeovil were never in real danger of going home with less than three points.

In the 10th minute, McIndoe offered a statement of intent, going forward for a close-range effort which home goalkeeper Kevin Welsby kept out.

In the 20th minute he tried again, but his curling free-kick cleared the home side's crossbar.

A minute later, some of the wind was taken out of the Glovers' sails when striker Abdoulai Demba had to go off injured to be replaced by Chris Giles.

The visitors made their breakthrough when McIndoe fired home from wide on the right.

Southport's attempts to wipe out Yeovil's lead in the second half were as toothless as their earlier exertions and Yeovil mantained control.

Sandgrounders striker Mark Lloyd-Williams called Chris Weale into action belatedly with two strikes, but the Glovers' goalkeeper was alert enough to respond.

Southport: Welsby, Scott, Clark, Winstanley, Lane, Pickford, Soley, Gibson, Howell, Thomson, Whitehall. Subs: Dickinson, Lloyd-Williams, Steve Jones, James Connolly, Sullivan.

Yeovil: Weale, Lockwood, Skiverton, Pluck, Crittenden, Way, Johnson, McIndoe, Williams, Demba, Elkholti. Subs: Alford, Giles, Reed, Grant, Collis.

Referee: G Simpson (Leeds)
