Doncaster 2-0 Hereford

Doncaster Rovers closed the gap on Nationwide leaders Yeovil with a comfortable victory over Hereford.

However, the Bulls started brightly at Belle Vue and Steve Guinan pulled a 20-yard drive wide of the post before veteran Doncaster frontman Paul Barnes fired a shot wide for the hosts.

Rovers went ahead in the seventh minute when Mark Albrighton slotted Justin Jackson's cross past Mathew Baker from six yards.

But Hereford would not lie down and Paul Parry should have done better after 11 minutes but he shot over the crossbar when well placed.

Doncaster doubled their lead on 23 minutes when the lively Jackson was pulled down by Andrew Tretton and Barnes drilled home from the penalty spot.

The Bulls still battled bravely and Parry and Chuck Fribenne both went close but it was Rovers who looked the more dangerous.

They almost added a third on 36 minutes but Jamie Paterson's superb 30-yarder rebounded back off the woodwork.

Barnes should have added a third on 48 but he headed wide from just six yards out.

Hereford still created chances but never really troubled Andy Warrington in the Doncaster goal.

Hereford: Baker, Rose, Tretton, Wright, James, Pitman, Parry, Williams, Guinan, Galloway, Chuck Fribenne. Subs: Teesdale, Sawyers, Purdey, Clarke, Griffiths.
